New app celebrates Jaguar's 75th

To mark its 75th anniversary and the North American debut of its C-X75 concept car at the LA Auto Show, Jaguar has produced a new iPad app.

The app, "75 years of Jaguar history", begins with the 205mph hybrid C-X75, which like every car from the marque's history, is backed up with a mixture of videos, pictures and interviews with the people involved in the design and engineering processes.

The app is free to download from iTunes, by searching for "Jaguar 75 HD".

Earlier in the year Jaguar also celebrated this anniversary by organising a 75 car convoy of its models, from XK120s and E-types to today's XF and XJ. The cars made the journey from the Coventry Transport Museum to the Goodwood Revival meeting via London's Mayfair Hotel, where the first Jaguar model, the SS 2.5-litre Saloon was launched back in 1935.

BlackBerry Bold 9780 Being Sold in India Now

BlackBerry's latest smartphone, the Bold 9780, has already started selling in India. According to a tweet from a person at Mahesh Telecom, the phone is priced at Rs. 26,900.

The Bold 9780 is a slightly updated version of the 9700 that was released last year. The hardware has been improved and the new phone has double the amount of RAM (512MB) as the 9700. The camera resolution has been bumped too. It now has a 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus, flash and image stabilization compared to the 3 megapixel camera on the Bold 9700. Rest everything remains the same on both the phones.

The new smartphone will be running the new BlackBerry OS 6.0, which features an improved interface, faster WebKit based browser and improved music and photos applications.

Apple's iOS 4.2 a 'milestone' update for iPad, iPhone

Nearly five months after Apple rolled out iOS 4 in tandem with the iPhone 4 launch, it has released the latest update for the software that powers its touch-screen lineup: iOS 4.2.1 (along with version 4.1 for the latest-generation Apple TV).

The free update is a major milestone for Apple: It finally unifies the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch so that all are running the same operating system with the same major feature set. The update also adds several key new features.

The iPad stands to gain the most improvements -- it's been running the older iOS 3.2.2, which lacks features already available on the iPhone -- but all of Apple's iOS devices that can run the updated software will benefit. However, not all models will be able to use every new feature. iOS 4.2 is compatible with the iPhone 3G, 3GS and 4, as well as the iPad and every generation of the iPod Touch except the first one. Certain features, such as AirPrint, will work only on newer devices. (More about this in a moment.)

Here's a look at the major changes and improvements iOS 4.2 delivers.

The iPad gets the most changes

The arrival of iOS 4.2 will be most significant for iPad users, who have been stuck using an older, more limited version of iOS. Numerous software tweaks and improvements result in a much more polished user experience for iPad owners and will likely spur even faster enterprise adoption

Threaded e-mail messages, third-party multitasking, fast-app switching, drag-and-drop app organization via folders, the addition of Faces/Places tagging in Photos, and wireless app distribution are all overdue additions.

The iPad already supported major VPN protocols; iOS 4.2 adds support for SSL VPN, giving users another way to connect securely to the office. Business users will also appreciate the newly unified e-mail in-box in the Mail app; you no longer have to navigate back and forth between multiple in-boxes when checking e-mail. And IT staffers will like the additional built-in management capabilities that allow them to better secure iPads in the office.

There are a few changes specific to the iPad. Unlike the iPhone's and iPod Touch's smaller screens, the iPad's larger one allows for the addition of a brightness slider within the multitasking bar, alongside the volume and audio controls. (The multitasking bar is the strip of icons that appears when you double-click the Home button.) Another iPad-specific tweak is the ability to choose photo size settings when you display more information in Mail messages.

And the switch on the iPad's side that has been used to lock the screen rotation becomes a mute switch, like that of iPhone and iPod. The lock-screen option has now been relocated to the multitasking bar, next to the aforementioned audio and brightness controls..

Versace mobile handset makes India debut, priced Rs 4.25 lakh

VERSACE MOBILES PHONES IN INDIA

As global luxury brands continue to rush to tap the Indian market, Italian fashion house Versace's high-end mobile phones today entered into the country with a price tag of up to Rs 4.25 lakh.

Versace's exclusive Indian franchisee Delhi-based Blues Clothing Company (BCC) said the phones will be sold at eight points of sales in metros at 'Versace Boutique' and 'Versace Collection' stores.
"We are very bullish about the new range of Versace mobile phones in India. There is a market for such premium products here," BCC Executive Director Abhay Gupta said.
The company has launched two variants of 'Versace Unique' mobile phones in different colours priced at Rs 3,95,000 and 4,25,000, he added.
The device boasts of features such as 3G compatibility, ceramic frame with an 18K gold and a five megapixel camera among others.
The Versace Unique, made by South Korean handset vendor LG, was announced officially earlier this year.
BCC is exclusive franchisee for a host of other luxury brands, including Italy's leading names -- Versace Collection, Corneliani, Cadini, VJC and Gianni Versace.
India has been attracting lot of high-end luxury brands and products. Recently, Volkswagen Group company Bugatti Automobiles launched its 'Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport' sports car priced at Rs 16 crore.
Even Swiss watchmaker Audermars Piguet launched its new collection here with a single timepiece priced up to Rs 2.1 crore.

Mobile phones banned for unmarried girls in India

Indian country has banned the unmarried girls from using mobile phones

A village council (or gram panchayat) in Indian town of Muzaffarnagar has banned the unmarried girls from using mobile phones. The council feels the move will prevent the girls from running away with their boyfriends.

The council met to discuss the 'bad effects' of mobile phones on youngsters and passed the order.

"The panchayat has imposed a ban on the usage of mobile phones by unmarried girls to prevent them from eloping with young boys against the wishes of their parents," panchayat spokesman Rajender Malick told the Indian media.

This ban is not just illegal (not ratified by the government of India, it is draconian as well as meaningless and ineffective). The reasons for eloping should be tackled, not banning the use of cellphones, which often help save lives in cases of emergency. What a stupid council of villagers we have. The government must interfere and revoke this.
