MOBILE COMPUTING
Mobile computing is "taking a computer and all necessary files and software out into the field."
"Mobile computing: being able to use a computing device even when being mobile and therefore changing location. Portability is one aspect of mobile computing."
Technical and other limitations of mobile computing
- Insufficient bandwidth
Mobile Internet access is generally slower than direct cable connections, using technologies such as GPRS and EDGE, and more recently HSDPA and HSUPA 3G networks. These networks are usually available within range of commercial cell phone towers. Higher speed wireless LANs are inexpensive, but have very limited range.
- Security standards
When working mobile one is dependent on public networks, requiring careful use of VPNs.
- Power consumption
When a power outlet or portable generator is not available, mobile computers must rely entirely on battery power. Combined with the compact size of many mobile devices, this often means unusually expensive batteries must be used to obtain the necessary battery life.
- Transmission interferences
Weather, terrain, and the range from the nearest signal point can all interfere with signal reception. Reception in tunnels, some buildings, and rural areas is often poor.
- Potential health hazards
More car accidents are related to drivers who were talking through a mobile device. Cell phones may interfere with sensitive medical devices. There are allegations that cell phone signals may cause health problems.
- Human interface with device
Screens and keyboards tend to be small, which may make them harder to use. Alternate input methods such as speech or handwriting recognition require training.

MOBILE NUMBER PORTABILITY
Mobile number portability (MNP) enables mobile telephone users to retain their mobile telephone numbers when changing from one mobile network operator to another.
General overview:-
MNP is implemented in different ways across the globe. The international and European standard is for a customer wishing to port his/her number to contact the new provider (Recipient) who will then arrange necessary process with the old provider (Donor). This is also known as 'Recipient-Led' porting. The UK is the only country to not implement a Recipient-Led system, where a customer wishing to port his/her number is required to contact the Donor to obtain a Porting Authorisation Code (PAC) which he/she then has to give to the Recipient. Once having received the PAC the Recipient continues the port process by contacting the Donor. This form of porting is also known as 'Donor-Led' and has been criticised by some industry analysts as being inefficient. It has also been observed that it may act as a customer deterrent as well as allowing the Donor an opportunity of 'winning-back' the customer. This might lead to distortion of competition, especially in the markets with new entrants that are yet to achieve scalability of operation.
Technical details
A significant technical aspect of MNP (Mobile Number Portability) is related to the routing of calls or mobile messages (SMS, MMS) to a number once it has been ported. There are various flavours of call routing implementation across the globe but the international and European best practice is via the use of a central database (CDB) of ported numbers. Network operator makes copies of CDB and queries it to find out which network to send a call to. This is also known as All Call Query (ACQ) and is highly efficient and scalable. Majority of the established and upcoming MNP systems across the world are based on this ACQ/CDB method of call routing. One of the very few countries to not use ACQ/CDB is the UK where calls to a number once it has been ported are still routed via the Donor network. This is also known as 'Indirect Routing' and is highly inefficient as it is wasteful of transmission and switching capacity.
ARE YOU READY TO CHANGE YOUR SERVICE PROVIDER
Connected’ youngsters, for whom their number is their identity, are looking forward to January 25 when they get to pick and choose a provider. Service providers meanwhile are gearing up for MNP, introducing new technology to seduce loyalists to switch and offering cheaper tariffs, customised schemes, better service, the works.
Enock Roy, a professional has been satisfied with his Vodafone connection for the last three years but, “If any other connection offers me better connectivity, I would happily switch. I travel a lot and it is important to stay connected to colleagues and clients while I am away,” he says. Ankita Rajurkar of Nasr School says, “I only message my friends and won’t call unless it’s very urgent. Airtel provides a cheap scheme for texting. But, if Vodafone had a cheaper SMS tariff scheme, then I would surely shift.”
There are of course some very satisfied customers who say they will stay put. Akshaya says, “I have been using Vodafone for a while and don’t think I will change. So far, Vodafone has the best connectivity. Other users might offer cheaper schemes but when it comes to connectivity, most of them don’t have signal.” But even loyalists like Akshaya confess that MNP will allow them to switch networks as many times as they please, depending on the schemes that suit them best.
If the service providers are nervous, they’re not showing it. Deepak Gulati, executive president, mobility business, Tata Tele Services Ltd. (TTSL), says, “We have been in favour of the introduction of Mobile Number Portability for years and welcome its implementation by the authorities. TTSL has always believed that the power of choice should be given to the customer and that subscribers should be allowed to own their number and choose their service provider on the basis of network and service quality. We believe that by offering world-best products and services to customers, and being transparent and honest in all our dealings with them, we will continue to do well.” Some even believe MNP will work in their favour. “Airtel product offerings have been reinforced with the launch of our new brand identity. With MNP, customers now have the freedom to bring their number to Airtel,” says a spokesperson from Airtel.
With one eye on the learnings from the international market, some providers are sprucing up their tech as well as their talk to maximise the potential of their brand. Samaresh Parida, Director, Strategy, Vodafone Essar, says, “Number portability is good for the customer. Customer choices will be driven by a number of factors like network quality, innovative products and services, customer service and brand. We have invested in our network quality and customer care in a big way and are also readying technology to enable portability.”
Idea Cellular is on the same page as Vodafone. Rajat Mukarji, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, IDEA Cellular says, “Idea is ready to enable MNP on its network. We’ve made substantial investment in network, technology, processes etc. to allow subscribers to switch to Idea.”
Nokia E7 has dual camera with primary camera of 8 MP which is having resolution of 3264×2448 pixels and secondary camera has VGA. There are many photography features added to this handset, through which one can capture beautiful and clear pictures. They are fixed focus, dual-LED flash, Geo-tagging and face detection. It is powered by ARM 11 680 MHz processor, 3D Graphics HW accelerator and works on Symbian^3 Operating System.
The device has AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with the capabilities of 360 x 640 pixels, 4.0 inches. There are various display features as well which includes Accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, Scratch-resistant surface, Touch sensitive controls, Handwriting recognition, Nokia Clear Black display, QWERTY keyboard, Multi-touch input method and Proximity sensor for auto turn-off. The display is having 16 Million colors. The handset has internal memory of 16 GB storage, 256 MB RAM, 1 GB ROM. Nokia E7 Deals is available in Dark Grey, Silver White, Green, Blue, Orange colors.
There are many network providers such as Orange, Vodafone, Three, O2, Virgin and T-Mobile, which are planning to offer great deals over the handset. These networks will be offering mouth watering Nokia E7 Deals to the users. This deal might be very much beneficial for the users. They are also planning to offer pay as you go deals, SIM free deals and so on. But the once which might be offering free gifts along with free incentives is contract deals.

Dual sim cell phones have a new member in town as Intex has launched in India its latest IN8810 which has a built in projector. After Samsung’s GT-i8520 with super AMOLED touchscreen, full touchscreen IN8810 will be available in the market from December onwards for just Rs. 12000. Where Samsung’s phone will be available for Rs. 38000.Despite the price difference, there are many hardware and software differences in the phone too as the IN8810 can support 36 inch screen size for projection and offers up to 3 hours of projection time which will let us watch Hindi movies at just one single charge.
The LED technology based projection lamp will enable a life of 20,000 hours. This dual-SIM smartphone supports two GSM+GSM connections.A number of multimedia features are also present in the phone like a video player with recorder, 64 MB internal memory, expandable memory upto 16 GB,, camera in back panel with LED flash, video recording will be possible at 25 frames per second, front facing camera which will make video chat easier.The price is pretty affordable and with so many features it is definitely worth it,
